The road wasn't without its challenges. Two of the septuplets, Alexis and Nathan, were diagnosed with cerebral palsy, requiring the use of walkers. Nathan, however, defied the odds – after undergoing back surgery in 2005, he learned to navigate the world without the aid of a walker.
Despite these difficulties, all seven siblings graduated from high school and went on to pursue higher education. Natalie, Kelsey, Nathan, and Joel received scholarships from Hannibal-LaGrange University in Missouri, while Kenny and Alexis attended Des Moines Area Community College. Brandon, following his own path, enlisted in the United States Army.
A New Chapter: Independence and Personal Growth
The septuplets’ college experiences were their first taste of true independence. Kelsey reflected on the importance of this milestone: “Growing up, we were always together. Whatever we did, wherever we went, we were always together.” She, along with her siblings, found that attending college offered the freedom to explore their individual passions and talents.
“We’re not just the seven septuplets,” Kelsey said. “We’re becoming our own people.”
Personal Milestones and Achievements
The septuplets continue to impress with their achievements. In 2015, their older sister Mikayla married and welcomed a son, making the septuplets aunts and uncles for the first time. Later, Natalie married in May 2019, with Brandon following suit just months later.
Natalie now aspires to attend graduate school and become an athletic trainer, while Alexis is focused on early childhood education, aiming to make a difference in elementary schools. Alexis has also shone in beauty pageants for children with special needs, winning the Teen Miss Dreams Made True pageant in 2013.
Meanwhile, Nathan and Joel are studying computer information systems, with Joel setting his sights on a career in cybersecurity at Google. Nathan, passionate about technology, enjoys assembling computers and hopes to pursue a career in the tech industry.
