The war between Russia and Ukraine continues, with no peace deal in sight. Now, former U.S. President Donald Trump has made one of his strongest public warnings yet—this time aimed directly at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Trump, known for his bold and often controversial statements, posted a fiery message on Truth Social, urging Zelensky to act fast—or risk losing it all.
“He can have peace, or he can fight for another three years before losing the whole country,” Trump wrote.
“The statement made by Zelensky today will do nothing but prolong the killing. Nobody wants that!”
Trump’s comments came after Zelensky told The Wall Street Journal that Ukraine will never recognize the Russian occupation of Crimea.
Trump slammed this as harmful, saying Crimea was lost years ago under President Obama and was no longer up for discussion.
“If he wants Crimea, why didn’t they fight for it 11 years ago when it was taken without a single shot?” Trump asked.
He also accused Zelensky of using “inflammatory language” and “boasting,” even though the situation in Ukraine remains serious and dangerous.
In one of his most direct attacks yet, Trump said that Zelensky is out of options:
“We are very close to a deal, but the man with ‘no cards to play’ should now, finally, GET IT DONE.”
Trump also shared his concern for the ongoing human cost of the war:
“I want to stop the deaths of 5,000 Russian and Ukrainian soldiers each week who are dying for no reason.”
Earlier the same day, Trump’s Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters that the U.S. might walk away from peace talks altogether.
“We’re reaching a point where we must ask—is peace even possible? If not, we’ll move on. It’s not our war,” said Rubio in Paris.
Sources say the U.S. pulled out of a major London peace meeting after Ukraine refused to give up land to Russia. Meanwhile, Trump’s peace envoy Steve Witkoff was seen heading to Moscow to meet with Vladimir Putin.
Not everyone agrees with Trump’s approach. A UK government official told the Daily Mail, “The U.S. is messing up everything—on Ukraine, trade, and more.”
Even former UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace weighed in:
“The next war won’t happen because of Ukraine—it will happen because of Trump and his team of media pundits and real estate guys who don’t understand today’s world.”
