The actress had been receiving hospice care in Winter Park, Florida, after suffering multiple strokes in recent years. Her death marks the end of an era for fans who grew up watching her captivating performances in television and film.
Born Patricia Anne Maloney on March 17, 1936, in Perkinsville, New York, Patty’s career began at the tender age of three, when she appeared on Broadway. Standing at just 3 feet 11 inches, Patty quickly became a beloved figure in the entertainment industry, gaining fame not just for her roles, but for her remarkable resilience and talent.

Tragically, Patty lost her father when she was just seven years old. After his passing, she and her family moved to Winter Park, Florida, where she was raised by her mother and stepfather. Despite her small stature, Patty's passion for performing only grew, and she showcased her talents across various traveling shows and circuses, even performing with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
Patty’s path to stardom was paved with diverse roles that spanned multiple genres and formats. Although many remember her most for her heartwarming portrayal of Alice Bates in Little House on the Prairie, her career included a wide array of performances in TV shows such as Donny & Marie, Charlie's Angels, The Love Boat, and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, where she portrayed Tina, the robot waitress.

Her memorable role as Lumpy in the Star Wars Holiday Special remains one of her most iconic performances. Patty, in her Lumpy costume made of real human hair, became an unforgettable part of the Star Wars universe. In a 2008 interview, Patty recalled the challenges of wearing the heavy costume, which was incredibly warm and uncomfortable. “There was hardly any place to really breathe… they had someone standing by to help me with oxygen,” she shared, adding a human element to her memorable character.
Patty’s role as Alice Bates in the final season of Little House on the Prairie remains one of her most loved. Her portrayal of Alice, a kind-hearted, strong woman who played a crucial role in the lives of the Ingalls family, endeared her to fans.
